With 120 students attending our annual flat crawl on Saturday 10th March, it was as vibrant and fun as ever especially with the stunning weather Dunedin put on for us. This year’s theme was intergalactic aliens and it was great to see everyone getting into the spirit of the theme. Best dressed was awarded to Charlotte Brenkley and Shayna Carter with their handmade UFO outfits (pictured below – top left). We had a variety of games throughout the afternoon and everyone enjoyed the barbecue and hot chips. It was great to see the three year levels getting to know each other and making so many memories.

2018 P2 Camp Report

The annual P2 Pharmacy Camp was held from Wednesday the 14^th until Friday the 16^th of February this year. 60 new second year pharmacy students and 40 student volunteers came along for two days of bonding and fun at the Waiora Scout Camp near Mosgiel.

The 60 eager P2 students were split into 6 teams and participated in activities which ranged from sports to acting challenges. Points were given to the top 3 teams in every activity. The winning team at the end of the camp received a prize.

After getting to know their team mates, the P2’s participated in several ice breaker games including balloon popping and a quiz night to build their team spirit and comradery. After dinner, the night was finished with a disco party including a DJ and late night snacks.

The next day, the camp awoke to sunshine and the morning was spent playing cricket, volleyball, touch rugby and tug of war for points. After some sandwiches were served for lunch, the teams split off to work on their skits which included acting and songs based on a theme chosen from a hat. The skits were later presented at night and the whole camp were laughing and applauding the brilliant effort the new additions to Pharmacy had made.

The night ended in another dance party. New friendships had blossomed and the whole cohort was celebrating together before entering their first year of study in The School of Pharmacy.

Bake Sale for Prostate Cancer Foundation

The NZ Pharmacy Awards 2017 were held recently. A massive congratulations to Sonja Bimler who received the Future Pharmacist of the Year Award! This award recognises a fourth year B pharm student who shows passion for the pharmacy profession and insightful ideas in completing an essay on a predetermined professional topic. Well done Sonja!!

63rd annual International Pharmaceutical Students Federation World Congress in Tapei, Taiwan

Our NZAPS-O delegates are almost at the end of the 63rd annual IPSF (International Pharmaceutical Students Federation) World Congress in Tapei, Taiwan. The delegates have attended a variety of workshops, education symposiums, scientific symposiums, and represented the organisation at General Assembly.

We are one of over 100 countries represented in IPSF. NZAPS-O’s new voting rights within IPSF as full members has allowed us to influence changes and decisions affecting us on an international scale. We are also excited to announce that in General Assembly we have were appointed as one of the new member associations in the Auditing Committee – this will involve us looking over the IPSF treasurer’s report, world congress national report and the regional symposium financial reports over the next year.

This is an exciting opportunity for NZAPS-O and our members to be more involved in IPSF and have even more of a say. Next years IPSF world congress will be held in Argentina, and next years Asia Pacific Regional Symposium will be held in Japan.
