24th Asia-Pacific Pharmaceutical Student Symposium (APPS) Report – Chiang Mai, Thailand

In July, NZAPS-O proudly sent our dedicated delegate, Naomi Knox, to represent us at the Asia-Pacific Pharmaceutical Students’ Congress (APPS) in Chiang Mai. During this prestigious event, Naomi played an essential role in the Regional Assembly, advocating for the interests of NZAPS-O and contributing to key discussions that will shape the future of pharmacy students across the region.

Beyond her participation in the Assembly, Naomi also had the unique opportunity to attend the Antimicrobial Resistance Forum, which was organized in collaboration with the British Consulate in Thailand. This forum provided valuable insights into global public health challenges, with a particular focus on combating antimicrobial resistance—an issue of increasing importance to the global pharmacy community.

Additionally, NZAPS-O was excited to partner with the Auckland Pharmacy Student Association (APSA) during International Night, where our delegates came together to showcase the rich cultural diversity of New Zealand. It was a fantastic opportunity to not only share our local traditions but also strengthen ties with pharmacy students from across the Asia-Pacific region.

Naomi’s experiences at APPS Chiang Mai were a perfect reflection of the kinds of international opportunities NZAPS-O is committed to offering its members—opportunities that inspire personal growth, foster collaboration, and deepen our involvement in shaping global health discussions.

69th World Congress Report – Incheon, Republic of Korea

In August, NZAPS-O had the honour of sending Naomi Knox, our 2024 Contact Person(CP), as the sole New Zealand delegate to the IPSF World Congress. Representing New Zealand’s interests, Naomi played a vital role in the General Assembly, where she advocated for key policy topics, proposed changes to motions, and ensured the proper governance of the Federation. Her work at the Congress was instrumental in advancing the priorities of New Zealand’s pharmacy students on the global stage.

During the Congress, Naomi had the opportunity to engage with prominent representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA), as well as other leading figures in pharmacy. These discussions provided invaluable insights into global healthcare challenges and the evolving role of pharmacists in shaping future health policies.

Naomi’s participation in the World Congress not only reinforced NZAPS-O’s commitment to international engagement but also underscored our active role in the Federation’s ongoing work to advocate for the next generation of pharmacy professionals.
